Is this really news?

I feel compelled to rag on the mainstream media for what is passing as news. Specifically I am talking about the attention paid to celebrity couples. Bennifer, Brangelina, Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes. I checked CNN a few minutes ago and was appalled that one of the headlines above the fold was that Katie Holmes is converting to Scientology. Who cares? How far away is the day that what these people have for lunch gets press coverage? I'm sick of it. Seems like investigative reporting is being replaced by gossip. I want more.

Since you mention food drives

Jason's blog has inspired me to start myshblog up again. Any bets on how long it will last? Reading Meredith's post below reminded me of a friend's experience with a food drive that I would like to share. The boy scouts food drive is done door-to-door. On Friday night they place a plastic grocery bag on your door, you fill it up with nonperishables and they pick it up Saturday. Sadly, they usually end up with the stuff that's been in my pantry for months. My friend Jill participated, and set the bag of food on the front of her porch for pickup. Before she left home that morning, she also cleaned out the litter box, and put the plastic grocery bag of used litter in the back corner of the porch for later takeout to the garbage. When she returned home later in the day both the food and the litter were gone. We were hysterical imagining the den mothers driving around wondering what the smell was in their car, or the horror of taking all the bags of donated food into the church for sorting and opening them up to find unexpected treasures.
